✨ Why Is the RSV Vaccine Important?
RSV is a common virus that can cause serious lung infections in babies, such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia. These illnesses are especially dangerous in the first six months of life, often leading to hospitalisation.
But there’s good news! A single dose of the RSV vaccine, given between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, can significantly reduce the risk of severe RSV disease in newborns by around 70%. This happens through passive immunity, where protective RSV-specific antibodies are passed from the mother to the baby before birth.

✅ Available year-round – no matter when your baby is due
✅ Safe for mothers who’ve previously had RSV (once recovered)
💡 Great news for pregnant WA mums! The RSV vaccine is now available in Western Australia. Speak to your doctor or midwife about getting vaccinated.
💉 Can the RSV Vaccine Be Given with Other Vaccines?
Yes! To make it even easier, the RSV vaccine can be given at the same time as, or separately from:
✔️ dTpa (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis/whooping cough) vaccine
✔️ Influenza (flu) vaccine
✔️ COVID-19 vaccine

At this stage, the RSV vaccine is recommended once per pregnancy.
