Testimonial by Dr Nathalie Departe
“I started work atMedical Group in March 2011, and I can honestly say it is one of the best practices I have worked in during my years as a GP both in the UK and in .
From the start, I was impressed by the warm welcome I received from all the staff and by how happy everyone was to answer my (many!) questions as I got used to working in a new practice and a new area.
Getting to grips with such a large group of new colleagues was made much easier by the organisational structure of Panaceum; everyone has a role and knows what they are doing, and yet communication is easy and everyone is willing to help.
For example, I was assigned a member of reception staff (the wonderful Sue) who was in charge of sorting out my mail, my daily appointment list and is my first port of call with the aforementioned questions! I can’t tell you how much easier this is than having to fruitlessly run round trying to find someone (anyone!) to help sort organisational stuff out, usually five minutes prior to a busy surgery… And trust me, this happens a lot in some surgeries.
The Panaceum, where the practice is located, is a fantastic modern building in the heart of Geraldton with ample parking. It is light and airy with modern facilities including large consulting rooms, modern computers and a fully equipped treatment room with eight beds. The experienced nursing staff run this area, reviewing patients, giving telephone advice and dealing with emergencies, meaning that patients have more choice about how and when they are seen, and advice is always readily available.
Panaceum is also home to the Allied Health Centre including physiotherapists, an exercise physiologist, dietitian, psychologist and podiatrist as well as some visiting medical specialists. This means that patients attending Panaceum can benefit from a truly “in house” service; appointments can be made on the day and communication between services is quicker and easier.
We even have a pharmacy next door, so getting prescriptions and keeping track of them couldn’t be easier.
Overall, I would say that the group is it epitomised by it’s forward thinking, “can do” attitude. There is emphasis on education and support for all members of the team, and every one is encouraged to participate in team meetings. Equally important, there is always someone around, in person or on the phone if help or advice is needed.
I am thoroughly enjoying the experience of working here in Geraldton, have learnt lots and made some good friends… Who could ask for more in a job?!”
WHAT OUR REGISTRARS SAY
“I came to Panaceum because I heard good stories from other registrars and I wanted to work in a rural area. Panaceum offers a good supportive team environment, plenty of colleagues and other young doctors and registrars.”
“Geraldton is a great place to do your rural GP training and have a life at the same time. I would recommend the Geraldton Medical Group to anyone who loves the outdoors and is keen for new and interesting experiences in rural medicine.”
“I love the warm weather (…) Geraldton is the closest to Perth while still being country as we could get. Panaceum has great colleague support and I had it recommended to me. There is a group of doctors interested in a diverse range of topics (…). The corridor chat is priceless for your continuing education.”
“(…) I have learned heaps from peer reviews and in-situ tutorials and presentations. In addition, Panaceum is also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that I believe is pivotal for a conclusive work environment. The lifestyle of having the beach and outback at your doorstep is amazing.”
